The Secure Repository Option
With the Secure Repository Option, PCI/CFR creates a Virtual Disk Drive where the image files are stored. Images stored at this location appear to be standard TIF files. However, behind the scenes, the system is creating encrypted copies of each version of the TIF file and a separate file (a .CFRS file) that contains the audit trail and other metadata associated with the image.
Both the Standard File System and Secure Repository allow CFR files tobe exported to other file formats. However, you should note that once exported, the file will no longer be tracked by the CFR system. It is possible to export a digitally signed PDF file which guarantees that it is an exact representation of the original CFR-compliant image at the time of exportation.
