Standard File System Storage
In the case of the Standard File System Storage, images are stored by PCI/CFR in two separate files. One file contains data about the image, such as information about the magnification calibration, and the other file contains the image itself. The initial pair of data and image files have the extensions .CFRD and .CFRI respectively. Subsequent versions of the file are named by appending numeric extensions to the original file name. For example, if the first version were called MyImage.CFRD (and MyImage.CFRI), then the second version would be called MyImage.CFRD.2 (and MyImage.CFRI.2).
PCI/CFR will never overwrite a version of a file. Each time the image is saved, it will result in the generation of a new pair of files.
When you attempt to open a file, the PCI/CFR client will check the complete sequence of files and will deny access if any error occurs. If a problem has occurred with a file chain, it may be possible to restore the missing or problem files from a back-up.
You can open the latest version of the file in the chain or any historical version. See The File Open Command for more information.
