1. Acquiring Images

After you start PCI/CFR, the first thing you will likely want to do is acquire some images. The exact technique depends upon what kind of instrument you are acquiring the images from.

Acquiring TWAIN Images

The Acquire TWAIN Button and the Acquire TWAIN Image Command are used to acquire an image from a TWAIN device such as a microscope camera or scanner. Before you attempt to acquire a TWAIN image, you should select the active TWAIN device using The Acquire Select TWAIN Source Command. After you initiate the Acquire TWAIN function, your device's TWAIN driver will load. Consult its manual for operating instructions.

Acquiring "Spider" Images

Spider is a special version of PCI/CFR that works by automatically loading images from a designated "hot folder". The location of the hot folder is specified at the time of installation (see PCI/Spider Installation). To transfer an image into PCI/CFR using the Spider version, simply save the image into the hot folder. Note that PCI/CFR must be running at the time the image is saved.

Acquiring Images from Other Instruments

PCI offers a number of different mechanisms for acquiring images from different types of instruments. See Data Acquisition, for more information.

You can continue to acquire more images. Each image will appear in a separate window in the PCI/CFR application. You can annotate and save or print the images you have acquired.
