Spider Data Acquisition

Spider is a version of PCI/CFR that works by automatically loading images from a designated "hot folder". It can work with light microscopes, electron microscopes and any other image producing devices that save images in standard image formats.

To use Spider data acquisition, operate your instrument normally through the instrument vendor's software. When you wish to transfer an image to PCI/CFR, simply use the instrument's File Save or Export function to save the data to the hot folder.

The location of the hot folder is specified at the time of installation (see PCI/Spider Installation). Note that PCI/CFR must be running at the time the image is saved. In addition, note that any files saved to the hot folder will be deleted once they have been loaded by PCI/CFR. Therefore, the hot folder should be regarded as a temporary transfer point, not a permanent storage location. Once the image has been loaded by PCI/CFR you will need to save it to its permanent location.
