Dialog Box Options

Show these options for every Advanced Acquisition

If this is checked, this dialog will be shown every time the "A" button on the tool menu is clicked. If it is not checked, this dialog will not be shown when the "A" button is clicked and the settings last specified in the dialog will be used to immediately begin acquisition. This way, if your settings seldom change, you need not be bothered by the dialog. To see the Advanced Acquisition dialog again, use the Acquire Advanced command on the main menu.

Image Size Selection

Select the image size you wish to acquire by clicking on the radio button next to the appropriate size. Click on the Custom button to change the dimensions of the custom image.

Image Depth Selection

Click on 8-Bit Image or 12-Bit Image to specify the pixel depth of your images.

Acquire

Click on the check boxes under the Acquire column to choose which channels to acquire. Channel A and Channel B can both be acquired independently, but the Mix image requires that both Channel A and Channel B be acquired.

Acquisition Modes (Channels A and B)

Choose the acquisition mode for each channel:

Single
Acquire a single image
Continuous
Continuously acquire new images until stopped by the operator

The following modes can acquire a fixed number of frames before stopping by entering the number of frames desired in the Frames edit control. If nothing is entered in the frame's edit control, images will be acquired continuously until the stop button is clicked.

Add
Sum all of the acquired frames together.
Average 2
Image is formed from 1/2 of the current frame
plus 1/2 of what was previously displayed.
Average 4
Image is formed from 1/4 of the current frame
plus 3/4 of what was previously displayed.
Average 8
Image is formed from 1/8 of the current frame
plus 7/8 of what was previously displayed.
Average N
Image is formed from 1/N of the current frame
plus (N-1)/N of what was previously displayed.
(i.e., the second frame is 1/2, the third frame is 1/3, etc.)

When you use an acquisition mode that involves adding or averaging, the Clear button on the acquisition tool panel will become active. Pressing this button will clear the accumulated images and restart acquisition.

Mix Modes

The third image is formed from a mixture of channels A and B. Select the method used to generate the mixed image:

A+B
The mix image is made up of a percentage of A plus a percentage of B. For example if the percentage in the percent edit control is 15%, then the mix image is 85% A + 15% B.
A-B
The mix image is made up of A minus a percentage of B. For example if the percentage in the percent edit control is 15%, then the mix image is 100% A - 15% B. (Note that for A-B it is always 100% A.)
B-A
The mix image is made up of B minus a percentage of A. For example if the percentage in the percent edit control is 15%, then the mix image is 100% B - 15% A. (Note that for B-A it is always 100% B.)

In addition to being able to specify the mix percentage at this point, you can also adjust it during acquisition by moving the slider at the bottom of the mixture window.
