The Fixed-Size Region Selection Tool

The Fixed-Size Region Selection Tool is used to select a region of specified size from an image for the Edit Copy and Edit Cut commands. Use this feature when you want to specify the exact pixel dimensions of the selected region.

To select a portion of an image to copy to the clipboard, first choose the Fixed-Size Region Selection Tool from the toolbar. Whenever you press the left mouse button over the image, the region surrounding the mouse will be selected. If you continue to hold down the mouse button, you can drag the selection rectangle around the image.

To change the size of the selected region, double click the left mouse button. You will be asked to enter the X and Y dimensions of the selection rectangle. By selecting the Fixed Aspect Ratio check box, you can elect to have the computer automatically calculate one of the dimensions based on the original aspect ratio of the image. This feature is particularly useful if you want to photo replay a portion of the image.

To select a region of variable size by dragging the mouse or to clear the selected region, use the standard Region Selection Tool as discussed in the previous section.
