The Region Selection Tools

The Region Selection tools are used to select regions of an image for the Edit Copy and Edit Cut commands (See Editing Functions). Tools are provided to select rectangles, ellipses, polygons and freehand shapes.

To select a portion of an image to copy to the clipboard, first choose the Selection Tool of the desired shape from the tool panel. For the rectangle and ellipse tools, simply press the left mouse button at one corner of the desired region and then drag the mouse, holding down the left button, to the opposite corner of the region. For the polygon tool, click on each corner of the desired polygon and double click to close the polygon. For the freehand tool, press the mouse button, and, while holding it down, trace the desired shape with the mouse. Release the button when you finish drawing. The boundary of the selected region is superimposed on the image. The clipboard copy and cut functions will now operate on just this region.

To clear the selected region and select the entire image, click the left mouse button (having chosen a Region Selection Tool) anywhere in the image. The selection boundary will disappear indicating that the entire image is now selected.
